Shaded Dwellings among Streams and Mountains

Dong Qichang reworked a landscape by Dong Yuan, seeking an artistic relationship with the earlier master. Rocks and trees take calligraphic form. Studying the past becomes a means of developing a personal painting language rather than reproducing every detail.
