Soga Shōhaku

Soga Shohaku worked in eighteenth-century Kyoto. He deliberately looked back to the Soga painters of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. Abrupt brushwork, distorted figures and unusual faces distinguish his work from many contemporary schools.
