Painting attributed to Sultan Muhammad

Active in the first half of the 16th century

Sultan Muhammad came from Tabriz and was a leading painter in the Safavid royal workshop by the mid-1510s. He taught the future Shah Tahmasp to paint. He later became one of the directors of the extensive Shahnama project in Tabriz, a manuscript that brought together many artists and individual styles.
