Yun Shouping

Yun Shouping came from Piling, now Changzhou, a centre of flower, plant and insect painting. He joined resistance to the Manchu conquest and was briefly imprisoned. The museum connects his later flower imagery with loyalty to the fallen Ming dynasty. His biography establishes the historical setting of these outwardly quiet works.
