Peter Paul Rubens
1577–1640

Rubens spent eight years studying and working in Italy before returning to Antwerp in 1608. Archduke Albert and Isabella appointed him court painter the following year. He managed a large workshop while also undertaking diplomatic responsibilities in European politics.
