Michelangelo

Michelangelo first trained as a painter with Ghirlandaio, then studied sculpture under Lorenzo de' Medici's patronage. In 1505 Julius II called him to Rome to begin a tomb. That commission continued intermittently for decades. Between its stages, from 1508 to 1512, he painted the Sistine Chapel vault.
