Martin Johnson Heade

Heade traveled in the United States and Europe and made three trips to Central and South America. In Brazil he studied hummingbirds and began a series of paintings of them. At sixty-four he settled in Saint Augustine, Florida, where he painted still lifes of magnolias, orange blossoms and roses.
