Georges Seurat
1859–1891

Seurat studied at the École des Beaux-Arts with Henri Lehmann, a pupil of Ingres, and copied early Italian and seventeenth-century French painting in the Louvre. His mature technique combined academic training, Impressionist practice and contemporary theories of optical color relationships.
