Camille Corot
1796–1875
At twenty-six, Corot gained the independence to leave the cloth trade for painting. He trained with Michallon and Bertin and first visited Italy in 1825–1828. Outdoor studies and sketchbooks supported the ambitious studio landscapes he made for the Salon during winter.
